Melinda Mandeville
(607) 336-7897

This is an Emergency Services and Basic Needs program established in 1997 whose mission is to coordinate, assist, strengthen and promote opportunities for people to move from dependence to self-sufficiency. We provide outreach services that promote the opportunity for full human development. The program works in partnership with communities and individuals who seek to improve the quality of their life. We accomplish this through an array of services which include:

  • Coordination of food surplus access and distribution.
  • Coordination and distribution of nearly new clothes, furniture and household items.
  • Facilitation of an interfaith response to rural needs.
  • Enhancement and support for services which promote personal responsibility.
  • Strengthen and promote resources within communities.
  • Support the development of service needs of isolated communities.
  • Advocacy and support for individuals who seek to improve the quality of their life.
The program, a partnership with Opportunities for Chenango, works with individuals and families to help them meet their immediate needs and to encourage them to address longer-term problems.
  • Several community agencies visit Roots & Wings monthly to inform our customers about services they provide.
  • We sponsor Food Sense, a food buying cooperative offered by the Food Bank of Central New York.  Membership in Food Sense is open to the entire community, regardless of income.
  • In collaboration with partner agencies, Roots & Wings provides structured work experience placements for people who are ready to return to work or who want to improve their job readiness skills in a supportive environment.
